Michele Bachman recently announced, in an apparent attempt to pacify her constituents, that her "traveling" offices will be arriving in Anoka throughout the month of February. My first question, not answered in the press release, is whether or not this "traveling" office will include the presence of Michele Bachmann. If not, what possible purpose could a representative free office have for those constituents wanting to talk to their elected official in person?

Bachmann Brings Her Office to Anoka
Mobile Office Hours Will Increase Access to Constituent Services

Woodbury, Minnesota, Feb 11 -

The traveling office of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann will arrive in Anoka on February 13th, stopping at Anoka City Hall, 2015 First Avenue North, from 6-9 pm in the Committee Room. Area constituents are encouraged to come to the mobile office to share their thoughts and concerns and receive help with individual cases.

“I want to do everything I can to give Minnesotans access to my office and to their government,” said Bachmann. “Whether it’s cutting through bureaucratic red tape, getting help with federal agencies, or sharing concerns about Congress, I hope these mobile office hours will allow everyone in Anoka quick, easy and efficient access to my office so we can best serve their needs.”

Bachmann’s traveling office will return to Anoka City Hall on February 25th in the Engineering Room from 2-5 pm and again the following evening in the Committee Room from 6-9 pm.

For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Congresswoman Bachmann’s district office at 651-731-5400.

So, if this office is mobile, can someone please explain to me why it is apparently unable to leave the confines of Anoka? Furthermore, if it is mobile beyond the confines of Anoka, it might be helpful for Bachmann to inform us as to its other stops. Wouldn't it be easier for Bachmann to simply set up another permanent office so that constituents have continual access? Perhaps she could cut down on the glossy mailings thereby being able to afford the additional offices. I encourage everyone to go to these mobile offices and demand "easy and efficient access" to our Representative rather than just her proxies.

Isn't she copying this idea from First Congressional District DFLer Tim Walz? He's had a mobile office for a year now.

But that doesn't stop him from still holding dozens of open, unscripted public meetings. If Bachmann really wants to copy him, why not have some real open meetings with the people she's supposed to represent?
