Gary Gross, right wing blogger over at Let Freedom Ring, recently excoriated Barack Obama for a perceived flip flop on increased offshore drilling.

"The more that Barack Obama talks about energy policy, the more he sounds like a John Kerry flip-flopper."

Now, aside from the fact that Gross wants to put words in Obama's mouth that any honest person can tell are not there, he really ought to decide whether or not flip flopping is something to be ashamed of or whether it is something that people will "appreciate". Less than two months ago, Gross was dismissing the flip flopping of his own candidate as not such a big deal and actually something that people in the voting public will like.

"Let’s face facts. People know that politicians change their minds all the time. That’s factored into their opinions of politicians. That means, they’ll likely appreciate it when politicians flip-flop into the right policy."

Really? Are we to believe that when John McCain flip flops on whether or not to allow offshore drilling it is an admirable flip flop but when Barack Obama flip flops on whether or not to allow offshore drilling it is bad? To be certain, Gross does try to explain away the McCain flip flop by making the case that it is acceptable because somehow McCain explained the reasons he had changed his mind. However, what Gross fails to realize is that his partisan blinders were on when reading and even when posting the passage about Obama's reasoning.

“If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage, I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done,”

WHAT? You mean to tell me that bastard flip flopped by saying he would consider it in order to reach a COMPROMISE! Oh, the humanity! We certainly cannot allow his reasoning to be that he wants to compromise with the other side in order to make sure there is no environmental damage. GIVE ME A BREAK. We want partisanship, partisanship, partisanship and will not tolerate people willing to be Bi-partisan. It is simply, unnatural.

Their reasons for flip flopping were virtually identical and the only difference between them is that Gary Gross will gladly explain away any and all flip flops made by John McCain as admirable changes in policy while he will at the same time chastise Barack Obama for politicizing the issue. I would say that the only unreasonable flip flop in the above situation is the one made by Gross. Keep up the good work, Gary, I am certain you will get your Republican Party drone badge very soon.

Sen. McCain hasn't flip-flopped because he didn't change for political expediency. He changed his position because facts & conditions changed.

When he first opposed drilling on the OCS, gas was relatively cheap & it wasn't threatening to destroy the economy.

When he saw the financial hardship that high gas prices were having on people and on the economy, he decided that a change of positions was the logical thing to do.

Let's compare that with Sen. Obama's positions last week:

Campaigning in Springfield, MO, Obama called the GOP drilling plan a "GOP scheme." By the time his jet touched down in Florida, though, compromise sounded fine with him.

Meanwhile, his spokeswoman, Jenni Lee, said that Sen. Obama remained skeptical that drilling would have an impact.

I'm putting together another post citing Sen. Obama supporters saying "that new offshore oil exploration would take nearly a decade to produce any oil."

During a blogger conference call a month ago, Rep. John Peterson said that idled rigs just off California's coast could be producing "within months."

Forgive me if I think the guy who's changed his position 3 times in 1 week isn't sincere.

Forgive me for trusting a man who made a logical, coherent argument.

I'm just funny that way, ya know?

You'd think that Conservatives would be absolutely thrilled that Barack Obama, who stands to have at least 57 Dems behind him in the Senate, is even considering compromise with them. Certainly, compromise was never a part of George Bush's operating procedure.

Instead, people like Gary Gross excoriate him for suggesting a willingness to compromise. Muse, you said it just right: They want "partisanship, partisanship, partisanship." It's exactly that attitude that lost Congress for the Republicans in the first place.

Jeff, I hate breaking this to you but Obama changed his mind on drilling again this morning. He's now saying that oil "is rapidly disappearing."

Forgive me if I think he's utterly clueless.

According to his speech, he sounds like Nancy Pelosi.

His 'compromise' is drilling on the 68 million acres, etc. It isn't a compromise. It's a gimmick.

McCain Flip-Flopped on Offshore Drilling after money was promised to his campaign. That's integrity folks.

Ten senior Hess Corporation executives and/or members of the Hess family each gave $28,500 to the joint RNC-McCain fundraising committee, just days after McCain reversed himself to favor offshore drilling, according to Federal Election Commission reports.

Nine of these contributions, seven from Hess executives and two from members of the Hess family, came on the same day, June 24th, the records show. The total collected in the wake of McCain's reversal for the fund, called McCain Victory 2008, from Hess execs and family is $285,000.

Overall oil and gas industry executives and employees donated $1.1 million to McCain last month -- three-quarters of which came after his June 16 speech calling for an end to the ban on domestic drilling.

He's slimeball with no soul and a trollop for a wife.

Follow the oily trail of money right to McSame's campaign doorstep. This guy is such a fraud. I've seen more honest guys in a carnival midway sideshow.
