Taxpayers League "Hero of the Month"
January’s Taxpayers League “Heroes of the Month” are the only two members of Minnesota’s entire Congressional delegation to vote against the 2007 Energy bill: US Representatives John Kline and Michele Bachmann.
Just before Christmas, Congress got motivated and passed the Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007. If there could be a worse piece of legislation that purports to rid us of our addiction to foreign oil, then we haven’t seen it. The bill, that President Bush signed into law last month, mandates unnecessary increased fuel economy standards on auto makers, contains more than $21.5 billion in tax increases over ten years, will most assuredly stifle American energy production and creates dozens of new government programs and federal mandates – including an Office of Climate Change and Environment within the Department of Transportation.
