Apparently, Steve Gottwalt and Dan Severson will be holding a town hall meeting next Wednesday (December 12th) at Waite Park City Hall. The event will be from 7-9pm and include discussion on a variety of issues. Also in attendance will be House Minority Leader Marty Seifert. At the very least, they should be commended for providing the public an opportunity to discuss their concerns with them regardless of political affiliation. This is in stark contrast to our 6th District Representative who apparently conducts phone meetings from the safety of Washington DC that are open to those people of her choosing.
This line from the Schumacher blog caught my eye:
"As we approach the 2008 legislative session, this is an important opportunity to hear from constituents and discuss priorities for the state," Gottwalt said. "With a projected budget deficit, we need to hold down state spending and refrain from job-killing tax increases."
Perhaps someone should tell Representative Gottwalt that despite holding the line on tax increases, Minnesota still lost jobs over the past four straight months. Depending on my schedule, I may be in attendance at this event to document the various statements made by these local representatives. I encourage other readers of this blog to be in attendance as well so that it is more than a Republican rally. Hey, maybe Leo and Gary will be there so we can meet and exchange pleasantries for the first time. Just a thought...
