An interesting tweet scrolled across my screen yesterday from potential Republican Gubernatorial nominee, Tom Emmer, in regards to "federal health care plans":

What is not clear from this particular tweet is to WHICH federal health care plan Mr. Emmer is referring. Is Emmer referring to Medicare which is a federal health care plan? Is Emmer referring to Medicaid which is at least partially federal? Or, is Emmer referring to the federal health care plan for veterans?

One wonders how seniors, the poor, and veterans will react to the potential of having their federal health care plans pulled out from under them by a Governor Emmer in the name of states rights.

Wow. We need medicare and medicaid. This is very scary, and it's even scarier that he removed the tweet so now we wonder WHAT he's up to. What IS he planning to do?

Can a governor do that... just pull us out of those programs?

Well, I suppose he wouldn't need to participate in a "federal health care plan" IF he were governor, as he would receive his government health care plan through the State of Minnesota!

Maybe he was just referring to a new public option government health plan that was passed by the Dems in the House (current events anyone). Though, your theory provides more fodder for those that have nothing better to do. Keep looking at the shiny objects and missing the point and the Republicans will just sail through 2010 back into the Gov's mansion.

That is entirely possible. However, if that is true then I have a couple of questions:

1. Why would Emmer be opposed to only ONE federal health plan and not ALL federal health plans? Socialized medicine is socialized medicine after all.

2. What is the purpose of a bill that keeps Minnesota from participating in one federal health plan but continues our participation in the above mentioned federal health plans?
