To whom it may concern,

I recently joined with five other bloggers who I count as friends in the hope that we could create a different kind of blog. A blog that was less about pandering to one side of the political spectrum and more about a discussion of issues and good campaign politics versus bad campaign politics. I was more excited about blogging than I had been in a long time.

Unfortunately, what began as a fun collaboration turned into an absolute nightmare with the introduction of one post. If you are unaware of the post to which I am referring, then count yourself lucky. If you are aware of the post to which I am referring, then I am sorry.

I did not write the post, I don't know who did, and frankly I don't really care to ever find out. All of that is beside the point of this post though because I bear an equal culpability. Rather than stay silent on the matter or do the right thing and express disappointment I jumped on the twitter account for Northstar Liberal and fanned the flames. I went after Robin Marty and Jeff Fecke for no other reason than they were coming after my blog. I have no other excuse than to say it was a momentary lapse in judgment and I regret it. To both those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I take full responsibility for that behavior and can only hope that those people involved accept my apologies.

To that end, I will no longer be blogging, tweeting, or participating in DFL politics. I have not been very enthusiastic about blogging and politics lately as it is and this event simply demonstrated to me that it is time to get out. To those of you who I have met in person along the way, I hope we can stay in touch. To those of you who I have not met in person, it was fun interacting with you and I wish you the best.

Whoa, wait a minute. I saw that post and yes, it was not the best idea. But that is not a reason for YOU to stop your commentary. You have contributed a lot to the discussion in the blogosphere...and you have a lot more to contribute. It's was a mistake by whomever wrote it and maybe somebody should have caught it before publication....things like that are going to happen and can happen to anybody. Don't make a rash decision. Think it over. There are too many debates that need your input.

I know nothing about any of this. I do know I enjoy reading your blog. I, too, hope you won't hang it up. Give it some time...and I hope you come back!

Take some time, decompress and do whatever you want to do -- without regard for what happened the other day.

I'll be sitting out -- probably -- because I really want to be done with politics. If you get fired up again, please come back.

Eric!! Come on man you can't quit!!! You either Truscott! So the post was a mistake, we all make mistakes but it's no reason to stop blogging and participating in politics especially now when we have a good chance of getting rid of Bachmann! We need your help........please reconsider.

I respect you for leaving blogging and hope The Snark will do the same. That was one of the worst examples of "progressive" behavior I've seen in a long time and North Star Liberal gave all of us a black eye. Eric, you should advise others at the Netroots Minnesota conference this weekend on how not to use social media. best of luck.

I have no idea what happened, but I know that you are an intelligent and decent person. That is all that ever matters to me. I would prefer if you didn't go away, but if you feel you must I still wish you the very best at whatever you do.

Don't let the nasties get you down, bro!

Muse, who are you kidding. You knew you were joining a group that included Tommy Johnson, and he is as low as it gets.

The only thing that caught you off guard is that the attacks went toward some Dems.

No. Don't give up! At least don't if give up if its because of someone else's tactlessness. If you need to take a break, of course. I also have no idea what happened, but you're a truly good person and hilarious to read. But I know how the actions of others can make something less enjoyable.

True moderates like you are far too rare in the blogosphere for you to quit. Take a sabattical, but don't give it up.

Mitch, regarding my last sentence. I think of the many attack on Norm Coleman and his marriage. I think of claims that Erik Paulsen raised money at "Vegas strip clubs" - when in fact, he's never been to Las Vegas. I think of how a baseless rumor about Laura Brod was picked widely sprear by Falldin, Johnson and Trice - claimng it was started by a Republcain and they just wanted to get to the bottom of it. I think of accusations that a true Minnesota War Vet illegally used his military email to blog. All of those accusation proved to be false, yet we didn't see any libs calling it quits.

I consider both you and Muse to be bloggers that honor the code of decency. Had the Snark made similar comments about the GOP candidates for governor, we would not be seeing bloggers "resign" in the midst of liberal protests.
