From the St. Cloud Times:
Letter: Bachmann is thinking about the bigger picture

Published: November 10. 2007 12:30AMIt is wonderful to know that Rep. Michele Bachmann is on her toes, as always, reading beneath the surface into the fine print of the legislation sponsored by our representatives in Congress.
I hate to quibble about the little things, but did they really need two people to write a few sentences about the "accomplishments" of Michele Bachmann?
She looked into the SCHIP act and noted that in Minnesota these monies are in fact being used in part for adults. In addition, in Minnesota we already have programs in place to cover our children’s health care needs.
If she read between the lines she would also realize that those adults were to be phased off of SCHIP. Not to mention that it was President Bush himself who approved most of the waivers allowing adults to be covered by SCHIP. Finally, a true visionary might also realize that there are a number of states in this union beyond Minnesota that would benefit. Are you telling us that Michele is so visionary that she can see far into the future, but only to the borders of Minnesota? Way to read between the lines but forget to read the actual legislation!
It is our understanding that funding for the SCHIP program comes from taxes on cigarettes. If SCHIP would expand as proposed by some in Congress, one would think it would need to come again in yet another increase in cigarette taxes. At present, there is such a push by Congress for smoking cessation nationwide. With a decrease in consumption in cigarette use, one wonders where the funding would then come from to support the expansion of SCHIP.
Yeah, for a cheaper pack of cigarettes we sacrifice the health needs of millions of Americans, Go Michele! I wonder, would a true visionary realize that getting fewer people to smoke would in turn reduce the health costs of adults and the CHILDREN they live with? Hey, just a guess...
Bachmann’s votes in support of the Iraq war do indeed offer support to our children in the long run. The war is being fought in support of our freedom and security over there at its source, instead of in the United States.
Certainly, I wouldn't want Sunnis and Shiites coming over here to fight their CIVIL WAR but I fail to see how sending our children into that war zone is in any way related to their freedom or security. It appears to me, given that this has been the deadliest year thus far in Iraq, that our children would be more secure here at home rather than in the middle of two groups that have been battling each other for over one thousand years.

Thanks for your analysis of this LTE.
Reading the opening paragraph on the SC Times website, I thought it was stated in jest … but the further I read I began to think that these writers were serious … seriously misguided.
You have made excellent points concerning the SCHIP program and actually understand that there is a Civil War in Iraq (despite an Iranian secret plan for the partition of Iraq in which Iran would control half the country and set it up as "a terrorist safe haven zone" … secret because only Bachmann and a few other enlightened individuals have been informed.)
Keep up the good work.
Hey, thanks for the visit and thanks for the kudos. I certainly wish we could get someone like Tim Walz here in this district!
